A large quantity of relief tarpaulins was recovered from a warehouse in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, after its owner, Debabrata Roy, regained possession of the property and opened the premises. Roy alleged that he had been compelled to surrender control of the warehouse because of his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He claimed that after a recent political change in the state, the warehouse was returned to him, and upon entering the premises he found what he described as a "mountain" of relief tarpaulins stored inside.
The warehouse is located beneath a residential building opposite the Hanuman Temple in Ward No. 2 of Baruipur Municipality. According to Roy, the property remained beyond his control for an extended period and was allegedly used for storing relief materials. He alleged that the warehouse had been taken over during the tenure of the All India Trinamool Congress government and linked the matter to Jayanta Bhadra, a district council functionary associated with the Fisheries and Water Resources Department.
After discovering the tarpaulins, Roy lodged a complaint with Baruipur Police Station and informed former local BJP leader Dipabal Chattopadhyay. Chattopadhyay and several BJP workers reportedly visited the site and observed the stockpile of relief materials inside the warehouse. The matter was subsequently brought to the attention of the local administration.
Police personnel from Baruipur Police Station visited the warehouse after receiving information about the incident. The recovery of the relief tarpaulins has triggered political controversy in the area. As of the available information, no response had been received from the accused side regarding the allegations. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the warehouse, the ownership claims, and the recovery of the stored relief materials.
